The average listener of DMV rap or plugg music probably doesn’t understand French. There are exceptions of course; for example, a kid from France who spends a lot of time on soundcloud, but for the most part, these fans would be lost if you dropped them in Bordeaux today.

When I discovered Serane, I was completely surprised that someone from France was making music with Goonew, Slimesito, Boofpaxkmooky and others. Nevertheless, hearing the French language and DMV flow on plugg beats was mesmerizing.

In songs like “Jure”, the Paris native floats on calm beats, while other tracks like, “Prise World'' resemble the chaotic, hyperpop beauty of Yeat songs. In fact, many of Serane and Yeat’s music videos share the same director: Moshpxt who started out making visuals for DMV legends like Baby Ahk (Rest in Peace).

In an interview with BasedNas, Serane details his love for the DMV and explains that producers like Cheecho caught his attention with songs like “Shots Fired” by Lil Dude and Goonew (Rest in Peace). BasedNas even took him to the Beltway Plaza Wendy’s, which I found quite humorous.

Serane also has a love for fashion and has experience on the runway himself modeling for brands like Raf Simons and Rick Owens. This is fitting for an artist for Paris who is breaking into the music scene with an unmatched sound.

Serane’s fellow Frenchman, TTdafool, is a frequent producer of many tracks for the rapper. Other collaborators include plugg legend Mexikodro and Sparkheem, who recently released a project with two songs featuring Serane: “LLGoon”, which honors the late, great Goonew, and “New Shit” a track with Joony, an up and coming artist out of the DMV who often works with Brent Faiyaz.
